The final double was slow. What is suggested by a slow double? Do you adjust? Edit: If south bids 5♠ (sorry for the omission)
Finch
Pass and 5S.A slow double suggests partner was thinking of bidding 5S. The auction is not one that partner was going to pass out.Do I adjust? A bit cruel to say 'yes' without knowing what action was taken! As a bidding problem, I would be in a forcing pass auction and would not have passed 5H. So I suppose for me, I've shown a slam try if I bid, and if I do bid that you probably should adjust against me.
ahydra
Wondering whether the X really does suggest partner was thinking about 5S - maybe his only options were pass and X, and he wasn't sure which to pick. Say AKQJxxx x Kx KQx where he isn't sure if he'll make 3 defensive tricks, but certainly 5S isn't a good idea. I think pass (by S) is clear though at the vulnerability. ahydra
mrdct
It sounds like north is holding something like:[hv=pc=n&n=saqt842hadkqt86ct]133|100[/hv]So it feels right to bid 5♠.
campboy
Like any other slow penalty double, it suggests that partner isn't convinced 5♥x is the right spot. I think bidding on is suggested whether he was considering pass or 5♠. If the latter then we should be making 5♠ and not collecting enough in 5♥x; if the former then we are probably not defeating 5♥x and 5♠ isn't going more than a couple off (and may not be doubled). Cascade
The director ruled that there was no additional information in the slow final double and hence no unauthorized information. He also said that in a poll everyone bid 5♠. We did not appeal as we already scored the maximum VPs in the match so it was unlikely to benefit us.
