Bbradley62
Could you explain the auction after 3NT?
rduran1216
assuming old timer type auction. 4C-slam try in clubs 4H- A of hearts 5NT - GSF 6C - 1 of the top 3 I guess im winning the A and playing a club to the J. When that wins, cash K of clubs, diamond to the Q, ruff a heart, A, and ruff a diamond, then cash A of clubs, spade to the A, pitching 2 spades on K9 of diamonds, losing only the heart at the end. whereagles
Purely out of feel (i.e. no deep statistics involved): Finesse the heart Q. If it fails and... - a spade comes back (worst case scenario), I'll have to decide whether to duck or rely on 3-3 diamonds. - something else comes back, I'll later finesse the club J, ruff a heart and play on diamonds (spade A as entry in case of 4-2 break). It it wins, I'm in great shape.
Phil
Shaky ground. This is a new partnership and we use Walsh methods. We have a way to show a 4054 after 1N so I was hoping 4♣ would be patterning with a 4153. 4♥ implied club length but I was also concerned 4♣ could be a self cue with a good 46 so 5N was pick a slam just in case. Thanks.I just ran across this posted last October: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=42185 Reply by bd71 for the auction: 1NT - 2C2D - ??3D = unspecified 5-card minor (3H follow-up relay, then 3S=clubs, 3N=dia)3H = 33343S = 33433N = 4+ in both minors (usually 44, but sometimes 45/54)So for your hand: 1NT ( 15-17) ......... 2C2D ....................... 3C!3D! ( 5 cd minor )... 3H! = asks3S! ( clubs ) .......... 4C! ( Minorwood )4S! ( 2 - cQ ) ......... 6C

inquiry
Not sure this is right, but I think i would win heart ace, cash club KA, did the queen fall? If yes, pull last trump, three diamonds. Makes if diamonds are 3-3 or West has spade king. If club queen does not fall, continue three diamonds -- makes if diamonds are 3-3 or if hand with 2 diamonds had 2 clubs AND west has the spade king. Perahps finesse heart and finesse club is better, but I don't think so. Maybe phil will tell us. Besides, cashing all my high cards (heart ace, club AK, diamond QKA is how my mother plays all her hands, but she probably takes spade ace too in here somewhere.... :)

I played ♥A, ♥ ruff, ♦ to Q, ♥ ruff, ♦A, ♦....hoping diamonds are 3-3 or that LHO has the long trump and 2 diamonds, or that RHO has the long trump + ♠K. The third case was the actual so I wrapped.
