Suggest that over 1S the two heart and two club

Suggest 2/1 responses to 1S opener reverse the 2C

and 2H meanings. After an opening 1S responder has

x KJxxxx KQx xxx

He bids 2C and opener bids 2H with singleton,

2D with doubleton, and 2S or higher with a fit and

various strengths. (or some other similiar scheme)

Notice that the trick taking power of this hand

varies by 3 tricks depending on openers heart holding.

xx KQxxx KQx xxx

If opener shows a singleton, try 2S.

If opener has a fit, its a game try.

When responder has clubs, the 2H response

is a bit cramped, but opener mostly rebids 2S.

"Two Under suit showing bids" are used by Bergen in

various preempts, and can be used in other situations.

On the downside, if they are effective, its odds on the ACBL

will restrict them from sectional or regional competition.

If you truly use them with a heart suit, then they're legal.

The bad news is, it's even more effective when you don't have a heart suit. If you have xxx in hearts, for example, it's very important to know how many hearts your partner has. My understanding that having 2C as a generic game force and 2D as a generic near game force is not legal under GCC rules- they're a relay.

However, there is one relay that's legal: 1NT force, does not promise a game forcing hand. 1S-1NT already asks about shape. Have 1S-1NT-2x-2NT ask about shape in even more detail.

The great thing about this is that you can stop. 1S-2C is already a game force, and IMHO you aren't close to GF strength with that hand. If your partner is 5-1-4-3 and 13 hcp, for example, what game do you want to play? In this case, the bidding would go:

1S 1NT (forcing)

2D 2NT (inquiry)

3C 3D 3C=0-1 hearts. 3D=2, 3H=3.

Switch may be good when you hold hearts (though the unlimited nature of 2C can still hurt). But you will hate the method when you hold good hand with C and have to bid 2H:

AQ972-AQ83-965-3

You open 1S, facing a response of 2H (good hand C), forced to rebid 2S. Responder now forces with 3H, and you try a raise to 4H.

1S-2H;

2S-3H;

4H

Responder may have good hand and get stuck, having to rebid his strength at 3 levels. In other word, his 3H may not be genuine and you are at 4 level and unsure of the trump fit.

The partneship will have a hard time to find their fit in heart or diamond.

If you play standard method,

1S-2C;

2D/2H

Opener can show his suit easily at 2 level and responder also has lots of options to investigate strains and levels.

When you have heart, you may not need too much bidding room as you can go beyond 3NT safely with heart fit.

When you have club, you need more bidding room (below 3NT) to investigate 3NT and other strains.

Imo, the switch may not perform as well as standard given the inefficiency of 2H responses, and the not-well-defined nature of 2C.

However, it can definitely lead to good game in 4H missed by standard bidders.
