Bidding proceeds as shown (agree with 4S here by South?)

If it helps, 3H by North would not be forcing, but the above sequence is not as strong as via going by 4th suit forcing.

On this hand, you are missing the ace of clubs, king of spades and queen of hearts. 6H didn't make on this hand (and wouldn't even if South held the queen of hearts).

Slam here is very bad in other words.

1) Is South worth a slam try?

2) Is North worth (or even forced into) co-operation

3) Given the number of controls that North needs for slam to be good, and the obvious risk that Blackwood might get you too high, should North do something else?

Lol - dangers of posting without coffee there.

I think as south I would make the try with 4, which does commit us to the slam as it happens. Hmm.

Luckily, you can still get out at 5H ( playing 0314.... when North goes 4NT over 4S ).

That said, switch to 2/1 GF so you don't stifle slam investigations with all that jumping .

I have very little experience in a SAYC framework as well as this sequence where a 3H raise would be NF (even playing non-2/1 I would much prefer this to be GF), so I guess the question of whether South should move on depends on what kind of hands North would bid 4H on and what hands would go via 4th suit forcing (and even after a 3C 4th suit forcing, if opener bids 3NT over 3C, how weak/strong of a hand would bid 4H). But nevertheless I have a feeling that South should pass 4H due to the lack of 4th suit forcing. Any time that North has weak trumps (say Jxxx or Qxxx) the 5-level is in serious jeopardy (imagine x Jxxx KQxxx KQx or xx Qxxx KJxxx Ax etc.) Any time that North has a minimum GF and control rich hand should obviously go via 4th suit forcing, say with xx KQxx Kxxx Axx or Kx KJxx Qxxx Axx).

South is close to a pass of 4H but 4S is reasonable. Over 4S North has an obvious and fast 5H sign-off as wank has said. North is closer to bidding only 3H on the previous round than to accepting any slam try with such a horrible hand.
