Automatic Adjustment in Express tourneys

Hi,

 

I have just finished an express tourney where this deal occurred.

 

Of course I had no trouble to double and opps took some time to bid this. Consequently, the deal was aborted after the lead to trick 7. At this time, the contract was already down 2, which would have been the second best MP score. If we were allowed to win the 2 ♦ tricks we were about to play, it would have been a top. However, automatic adjustment did not take place, and opps got 50% for this mess.

 

I think that automatic adjustment should not allow a score of 50% in cases where it is impossible to reach such a score regardless who wins the tricks not played.

Thanks Mink, this is a good suggestion, I think. I can suggest it and put on the list of possible improvements for Express software.

Maybe the timeout for replacing slow players with bots should be reduced in the last minute or two of the round, to make it harder for someone in a bad contract to wait out the clock.

How fast are you proposing that players be required to play? Even if you allow only 30sec instead of 60, that still allows declarer to stall for one minute per trick.

I don't know, I was just thinking out loud. It's frustrating making a good double, and not getting the good board you have coming because declarer dawdles.
