wank
I had 2 similar hands recently v a multi where i considered myself a bit buggered. [hv=pc=n&s=sq2hkdk9432cakqt2]133|100[/hv][hv=pc=n&s=sa2hkdq9832caqjt9]133|100[/hv] you can say if the vulnerability affects your decision. on the first hand you're 2nd in. 2D is a very weak only multi and RHO is an absurdly aggressive player. scoring is point-a-board/imps hybrid. on the 2nd hand you're 4th in. the multi can include strong bal hands. they're playing muiderburg. scoring is imps > victory point swiss. your defence is x = 13-15 bal or any 19+. bids are natural. you can show the minors by passing then backing in with NT, but it would be a purely competitive effort. what's your plan? on both occasions i overcalled 3 clubs. you can disagree with this if you like, but it's what i did so i was faced with a decision about whether to reopen or not after LHO bid 3H pass or correct (actually on the 2nd hand partner bid 3NT in front of me which i was delighted with, but assume it's passed back)
Hanoi5
I don't quite like your defense to Multi. I think I would have bid 3♦ instead of clubs in both cases, but your choice might be better to help partner to get to 3NT. Anyway I think I would double 3♥ in both cases but then my defense to Multi consists in anchoring the bid to hearts, so partner wouldn't expect spades as I think he would in your case (?). gnasher
On the first one, after2♦ 3♣ 3♥ passpassI'd double, then convert 3♠ to 3NT with a meaningful look. On the second one, is this the auction?pass pass 2♦ 3♣3♥ pass pass If so, I'd do the same. The idea of doubling is to allow partner to leave it in.
