What do you expect partner to have? Do you want to try 3NT? How about if you are vulnerable? Do you consider pushing for 5♦? Thanks for your thoughts. Partners hand was: A8xx, Qx, Qxxx, J9x Do you agree with his bidding? The auction ended at 3♦ making exactly (A♣, club to the K, club ruff, and then lose a heart)
mtvesuvius
Partner is just competing, I would pass. Yes I agree with their bidding.
aguahombre
Partner is just competing, I would pass. Yes I agree with their bidding. This decision (pass), has farther reaching ramifications. We don't want partner to remember this hand ---if you bid again---and be hesitant to compete the next time. Pard should still have bid 3D on the "spoiler" hand, even with one less diamond.
pooltuna
no quibbles with either pass or 3NT at these colors. It would be tougher to pass if you were V ss the reward pard of the risk/reward equation went up.
Phil
I would bid 3N, but some form of good-bad helps distinguish between a real raise to 3♦ and a hand that is merely competing. It looks like a heart lead lets me run off with 9, but a spade or a club + spade shift is a problem.
