3NT (undoubled) could go for 400 or 500 opposite an average hand for partner. While 3NT might make more often than 5D, I'm not sure it's a favorite with no aces outside diamonds, no spade stopper, and not running diamonds.

I prefer 4D, over which I presume partner will bid 5D with suitable hands.

Double gets partner to bid 4H and then you can pass (4-2?) or bid 5D (perhaps doubled) opposite unsuitable hands.

I've seen a similar hand in a bidding contest. The only difference was the 3S preempt was done before the 1D opening, so it was actually a balance of 3S-p-p-??

The 3NT bid was marked at 10, on grounds pard rates to have a spade stop. 4D was like 6 or so and double was 3. But keep in mind these scores are personal evaluations of the person who put the problem.

Quite annoying... I reopen with double now I opened 1, but extrangelly would reopen with 3NT if I wasn´t able to open.
