Pd seems unlikely to have strong holding in spade, with good hand and some spade, he will bid 3N. So now if u dbl, he is likely to bid 4H, which is not what u want. Bid 3N. While 3NT might make more often than 5D, I'm not sure it's a favorite with no aces outside diamonds, no spade stopper, and not running diamonds. I prefer 4D, over which I presume partner will bid 5D with suitable hands. Double gets partner to bid 4H and then you can pass (4-2?) or bid 5D (perhaps doubled) opposite unsuitable hands. The only difference was the 3S preempt was done before the 1D opening, so it was actually a balance of 3S-p-p-?? The 3NT bid was marked at 10, on grounds pard rates to have a spade stop. 4D was like 6 or so and double was 3.
