3 way team of four matches

Can someone please set out the movement for 3 way teams matches? What is the seating position and which boards are played initially, and then how do the changes happen to complete the matches.

The easy way to describe the changeover at half-time is that EW pairs drop off the boards they've just played to their team-mates and then go to the table with the NS pair they haven't yet played, .

Why must it be an even number?

Each individual set of boards (1-6 etc) does not have to be an even number, but the total number of boards played by each team is going to be the sum of two such sets. You want each set to be the same number of boards because they are being played at the same time.

Using a triella as part of say 7 board match Swiss Teams the triella plays 2 3 board rounds

By the way as the 3 team 2 round set is usually assigned to the bottom 3 teams we don't call it a triella we call it the carpark

If you want all pairs to play equal numbers of boards against all of the opposing pairs (e.g. for a large three-way match rather than a Swiss Teams triella), you can organise a match in four stanzas as follows:

 

Start with each team at their home table and set out the first three sets of boards (e.g. 1-4, 5-8, 9-12). Move the EW pairs one table round the triangle of tables, play a set of boards. Move the EW pairs round another table and the boards in the opposite direction (to the home table of the EW pairs who have just played them, see Gordon's explanation above). Play the second set of boards, return to the home tables and score up.

 

Have team A switch direction for the second stanza only, and repeat the movement as above with boards 13-24.

 

Have team B switch direction for the third stanza only, and repeat the movement as above with boards 25-32.

 

Have team C switch direction for the fourth stanza only, and repeat the movement as above with boards 33-48.

 

Each pair will play eight boards against each of the opposing pairs in the other teams, i.e. 32 boards in total. It works best for multiples of eight boards, although you could vary the number of boards played in each stanza. Some pairs will play the same pair from one team twice before they have met the other pair, but it will work out in the end.

Or if you wish to play a long Triella eg all Swiss Teams are on say 7 board matches you can let the Three teams in the Triella play 2 7 board matches over 2 rounds whilst the rest of the field plays as normal and is matched then play next round and assign the 3 teams from triella in with rest assigning a New set of 3 for new Triella :rolleyes:
