Fluffy
2♦ next bid will probably be many hearts
mtvesuvius
Start with 2♦... My goal will be to show something like 7-5ish
dellache
2♦, no second choice. Then we'll think again.
mfa1010
2♦ is a dull bid that offers the nonvulnerable opponents the best possible position to find and judge a minor suit sacrifice over our major suit contract.

jschafer
Wouldn't 4♦ show a hand with a lot of distribution in the majors?

mfa1010
If you bid 2♦ the bidding will go:1♦ - 2♦ - 3♦ - passpass - ?? If you bid 4♦, partner will bid 4♠ and the opponents won't bid again. Plans?
mtvesuvius
I'd bid 4♥ now. Then make one last try over 4♠ with 5♣. I like that partner has a spade fit since if he has 3 trump we have a reasonable shot of having no heart losers. But maybe I'm too aggressive here, idk
Fluffy
4♥ when partner doesn't make any sound
han
2♦ is a dull bid that offers the nonvulnerable opponents the best possible position to find and judge a minor suit sacrifice over our major suit contract. Obvious bids are often dull. I wouldn't fear the opponents finding a sacrifice. They will never expect us to have a freak like this. I'd rather hear as much as I can about the other three hands before we have to decide where to play. If we preempted the auction with 4D, we'd never know if we had done enough. The fact that our hearts are considerably stronger than our spades also speaks against 4D. But K109xxx of spades is still good enough to make a direct 4H a really bad choice imo. After 3D I'd also go with 4H.
whereagles
Wouldn't 4♦ show a hand with a lot of distribution in the majors? Not for me, and I wouldn't do it with a pick-up pard anyway. 2♦ + insane nr of hearts seems like a liveable plan.

Very strong opponents - you play with your favourite partner. How high the partnership bids depends on what partner has in spades. To see what partner can volunteer I would start with 2D to show both majors. If partner can freely volunteer spade support, I would bid 5NT as the grand slam force. ewleongusa
Wouldn't 4♦ show a hand with a lot of distribution in the majors? In the US, 3D would be natural over RHO's 1D opening.4D would show a better hand than a 3D bid. Eric Leong
gwnn
I wasn't aware that in the US all people played the same system.
