CSGibson
[hv=pc=n&n=sk5h76daq52cakt92&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1h4d]133|200[/hv] Methods are 2/1, aggressive but not crazy openings. Intermediate 2 bids are used, so partner will not have a 6 card heart suit with 10-14 HCP unless he has a decent side 4 card suit. Negative doubles through 4♥. If you do decide to X, the bidding goes P-4♠-P back to you. Edit: Sorry, should give additional context. 4N in this auction is undiscussed, but partner is probably not going to take it as a natural call. Perhaps that's another question...should we have a way of bidding a natural 4N in this auction, or are the other meanings more useful? HeartA
4NT. If I decided to dbl over 4♦, I bid 4NT now.
mfa1010
A natural 4T would be nice, but unfortunately both a direct 4NT and a delayed 4NT (after D-4M) would be RKC. I would try D then 5♣ over 4♠. As always X+bid at high level shows flexibility and decent strength. Hopefully we will have a playable spot somewhere. Passing and blaming partner for not reopening with a normal minimum is not for me.
whereagles
I have this urge to bid 6♣, so that's my bid.
fachiru
Of course you'll have a bad day with hands like these :D I'll X (neg. in your methods)and bid 4nt over partner's 4S. My guess is you tried that and prd. gave you aces over 4nt (that's why it ended as a bidding problem here). There is no stopping now, so might as well go 6nt over any response. Another idea would be be pass initially; on a better day, prd., marked with D shortness will reopen with a X and you simply convert to penalty and take the $$. Phil
Brutal. Can I abstain?
akhare
Ouch -- make a negative X, retreat to 5♣ over 4♠ and hope to survive the auction. Hopefully they will have the same problem at the other table and it be a wash regardless of the outcome...
Fluffy
I ahve the same feelings as Phil, can see the field on 3NT making comfortable 660, and I don't think I can play NT anymore, cos 4NT on any of the sequences others are trying to apply will be blackwood for spades. Our best hope IMO is to pass or go for slam. Bad breaks don't suggest going for slam, so I pass and hope for the best.
manudude03
I'm tempted just to bid a very wimpish 4H, partner won't expect only doubleton support, but we are really stuck. Pass is likely to leave us defending 4H and anything else could be getting us too high when we don't have a good fit. I just hope the 5-2 fit is playable and we get out for -1 imp or something. gwnn
5NT, must be a choice between clubs and hearts :) but mostly it's because nobody else bid it yet and I think it's an interesting bid
gwnn
Partner likes his offense else he plays for 4+tricks vs. 4D-X.So I'm liking 6H.huh.

MrAce
Thats a hand from hell in this auction playing neg doubles, isnt it :) Anyway, those who plays negative double till 7NT, instead of showing cards and ownership of hand, has to pass i think. It just doesnt make sense to make an agreement that DBL is negative BUT the opener is not allowed to reopen with min values and short ♦. Opener has to reopen with short ♦ or we should play DBL by responder showing cards instead of strict T/O shape. So if our agreement is NEG DBL here then i will pass with this. I dont have any other choice with DBL being strictly negative. If my double is showing ownership of the hand (not penalty but asking to defend if pd has ordinary hand), then i DBL. Sometimes we can miss a side 4-4 major fit with this, but when someone preempts at 4 level it is not clear how good it will be to play that 4-4 fit anyway. But on the other hand opener can pass easily with all non wild hands. There is no perfection after 4 level preempt. And when opener pulls DBL we know he has a reason for it, not because he was forced and thought we have a fit. I have to admit, playing neg double works more often when u believe the preempt style is sound in the field.
mtvesuvius
It is a very bad day apparently if you have this hand! I'd bid 4♥, and hope for the best.
gszeszycki
NEG X I need to find out something further about partners hand in order to make a more informed decision. I would not bid4N to play even if it were available. There is way too much potential here especially if P has no more than 5 hearts. If P bids 4S I will bid 5C and P will realize I am trying for slam since I did not bid 5c immediately.
