Your call over 2?

Need some "C" players +/- 200 mps to answer this. If you want to email me at oakleafequities@yahoo.com with a private response, that's fine.

Sorry - 2 is natural - ignore the notation. If you are wondering, a double by partner would have been 'stolen bid' for a signoff in clubs or diamonds.

I guess I wish more C players read the forums. :(

As I have done in the past, I didn't post this in the IBLF, since I didn't want to give it away this was a poll for determining LA's.

The partner of this hand asked about 2 (not alerted) and then paused a little, and passed. I thought this hesitation and inquiry about a non alerted bid created UI. The UI seems to suggest bidding instead of passing.

The tabled result was 3 -1 when this hand balanced and the opps competed to 3.

I adjusted back to 2=. If you are curious, 4 makes since partner has A T9xxx xxx Qxxx.

Apparently it does depend on partnership agreements given ggwhiz's post. (But I've never run into any C players who had solid two-places-to-play agreements even in much more obvious spots than this one.) The way I play and the way nov/ints are taught to play, it looks like pass with nothing else to even think about, and the firing squad for anybody who bids.

and the firing squad for anybody who bids.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Director rulings told to me by a friend.

After 1nt - 2 - huddle pass - pass - 2, she gently called the Director as this pair was obviously new to duplicate.

Since it was the 3rd time in 4 or 5 rounds that the Director was called against this pair, he looked at all the hands and said "Double and lead trumps".
