  1. 1. What's your call?

    • 2D opposite UPH, 2N otherwise
      2
    • 2D always
      4
    • 2N always

2N, not even close. It's even better with diamonds longer because, if you decide to move over partner's 3 response, you can so with a 3 bid, showing extra length there with extras, and partner can still pass you at the 3 level.

Our defense is too good for 4NT and quite often 4M for them and 5m for us will both be down, so 2NT and hopefully the opportunity to make a move later.

I think 4NT should be reserved for more preemptive hands than this, this is way too good, even with partner already passed.

I think 4NT needs to be at least 6-6 (OK, usually 6-6) and more certainly about the level. This hand doesn't know how high to bid - if partner simply bids 3m, I will make a game try, not drive game, because it's not clear to me what the right level is.

If the opponents bid to 4S with partner passing, I double, which shows a hand that wants to bid again but has spare defence. Two aces are certainly bonus defence.

I don't see the point of overcalling 2D. There;s no law that says 2NT has to show exactly 5-5.

I am thinking about 4NT directly, its a slight overbid, but LHO has a huge fit and will want to show it probably. That would be a swingy bid, so only to be made agaisnt stronger opponents than me.

That bid reminds me of the old days lol. Seriously, it's too much. You have 2 aces. They might be going down in 4 something, no sweat.

Depends on your opponents, they might be going more down in 5 something if you bid 4N :)

This is close for us because we play our 2N good or bad, and this is sort of in between. Very close as to whether I'd show it as good or in between (by overcalling in ), if I had 12 potentially working points and a 652 I'd show it as good, but I only have 11 albeit with good intermediates. If you twist my arm I probably bid 2N and then bid again.
