I can be square,

I can be free,

I can be crossed,

And contracts are key.

Can you guess BBO's new game's name? That's a real mouthful, but the name is not. Guess the exact name, and win BB$20. Post your answers in the forum thread here, first to guess wins!

Closing date, Sunday Jan 23 11 PM EST.

It is, according to my best guess, Sunday Jan 23, 2011 and it is now 11:00 PM EST, so the contest is closed .

I can't play, but my clue would have have been......

Whatever it is, it is not.....

The Farmer's Daughter Bridge.....

but Randy Jackson might help you figure it out.....

Inquiry's clue is really esoteric! Definitely a wild hint. ;)

The contest, as Inquiry said, is now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated. I hope you had fun!

BBFers will hear the news first, before the news goes "live" in an hour or so.

The new game is called "Bridge Bingo", and bkshftns got it right on post #40. Congrats bkshftns, you won BB$20!

As stated, I wanted to award a creativity prize as well. This prize is awarded to a name that sounds plausible and cool. Mtversuvius, take a bow. I really liked your word "Compass". You win BB$20 too.

--------------

I think most BBFers will immediately have an image of what Bridge Bingo is about. And you're not wrong!

In this tournament, you get a Bingo card (everyone has the same card), and have to try and "Bingo" by bidding and making a row of contracts in any direction. Each time you bid and make one, it gets crossed out. The hands are best hand, total points, and randomly dealt. Time limit is 25 minutes. If you are familiar with Robot Reward tourneys, the Bridge Bingo tourney is like robot reward, but Bingo card is what counts, not your score.

There is a small twist - every 500 points you make, you get a "redeal". You can use this redeal anytime you want, but it's use it or lose it. So if there's a bad score coming up, feel free to "redeal". You can accumulate any number of redeals in a Bridge Bingo tourney.

Bridge Bingo is also the only game to incorporate new effects.

This also means Bridge Bingo is available only on new BBO. :) This was a conscious decision. It would have been very difficult to incorporate Bingo card into the old BBO, lest of all the special effects. Also, we think new BBO is superior in almost every way (not all, working on it!) and want to keep pushing the new BBO.

Right now, Bridge Bingo is available 4X per hour. Like the other free Robot tourneys, there are 10 spots per Bridge Bingo tourney. These may be adjusted depending on popularity and server capacity.

You can't play it yet...when the news goes up in BBO, then you can play. But if this sounds intriguing, why not go to http://www.bridgebase.com/index.php and try using the new BBO for a bit to get familiar with it?

Can you raise the limit beyond 10?

Working on it...(or a variation. More free tourneys)

Pay versions will have more generous limits of course, when they arrive in due course.

I'm closing this thread. Please open new threads to discuss Bridge Bingo or ask questions, etc. Feedback welcome, email me!
