laughter
Hi all!I am making my first time appearance in the forum.I am a bridge addict, having read a lot of books and magazines, though lacking some practice coz I have no regular partner.Just crazy about bidding. I want to ask about your agreement in your regular 2/1 partnership concerning jumps in 2/1 auctions: 1. In general, do you favor a style of fast arrival (direct jump to game weaker than forcing non-jump of same suit) or picture jumps (jump shows strong suit)? 2. If you play single jump shift by opener as splinter (e.g 1S-2C; 3D=C raise, short D), what is the minimum requirements of such bids (promises slam interest, or min, or unlimited)? 3. If you play jump rebid of Major by opener promises good suit and extras, what is the minimum requirement about suit quality and hand strength? 4. Regarding 1M-2X; 3M: Does the jump set trumps? What is the meaning of responder's rebid like: a)3NT b)4X c)4NT d) New Suit (non-jump) e) New Suit (jump) Thx for answering my questions! :)
the hog
1. If you play single jump shift by opener as splinter (e.g 1S-2C; 3D=C raise, short D), what is the minimum requirements of such bids (promises slam interest, or min, or unlimited)? 12-15 in principle, but can have more if opener moves later 3. If you play jump rebid of Major by opener promises good suit and extras, what is the minimum requirement about suit quality and hand strength? KQT to 6 4. Regarding 1M-2X; 3M: Does the jump set trumps? What is the meaning of responder's rebid like: a)3NT b)4X c)4NT d) New Suit (non-jump) e) New Suit (jump) 3N = min, to play4m = cue bid4N - key card Thx for answering my questions! Np. But you should not thank me. Most people think I don't know what I am talking about.
paulg
Welcome aboard with some good questions ... the answers are my style but probably fairly standard 1. In general, do you favor a style of fast arrival (direct jump to game weaker than forcing non-jump of same suit) or picture jumps (jump shows strong suit)? Yes - both of these in different auctions :) A jump to game is almost always weak, within the context of the auction. A non-jump bid is either stronger or uncertain about the final contract. Some leaps are unusual, such as 1♥-2♣-2♦-4♥ which would be a picture jump, minimum values in the rounded suits and nothing outside. 2. If you play single jump shift by opener as splinter (e.g 1S-2C; 3D=C raise, short D), what is the minimum requirements of such bids (promises slam interest, or min, or unlimited)? This shows a non-minimum hand, not necessarily strong though. 3. If you play jump rebid of Major by opener promises good suit and extras, what is the minimum requirement about suit quality and hand strength? Suit that will play for one loser opposite a singleton. Hand strength is less important. 4. Regarding 1M-2X; 3M: Does the jump set trumps? What is the meaning of responder's rebid like: a)3NT b)4X c)4NT d) New Suit (non-jump) e) New Suit (jump) It does set the trump suit, but 3NT is to play. New suits (and old) are cue bids, 5-level jumps are exclusion blackwood. 4NT (or 4♠ over 3♥) is keycard. Thx for answering my questions I should wait until you hear the answers :)

'Bridge Addict' is a redundant term around here. <_< 1. I HATE fast arrival, although I do use 1x-2y-2z-2x as undefined, and 3x as a slam try. 2. There is no minimum for a 3 level splinter, since we don't forego 3N. I suppose for 1♠-2♦-4♣, the hand should have some extra shape or HCP, since we are bypassing 3N. 3. No more than a one loser suit. Hand has at least one extra A or K. At least a 50/50 chance for one loser opposite a void: AKQxxx, AQJTxx, KQJ9xxx, etc.. 4. Good Questions: Yes - the jump sets trump 4A: 3N - In my partnership, 3N is 'Serious' - signaling slam try and requesting Q. I realize 3N can be very playable in MP's, but we give up on it. 4B: 4x - Ostensibly a cue bid. 4C: 4N - RKCB over ♠'s; EKCB for ♠'s over 3♥. 4D: 4 of new suit - cue bid. 4E: Kickback or Exclusion, depending on the sequence. skorchev
Hi, let me tell you what we play in Bulgaria, we have 3 models of jumpshifts after major opening. 1M-3m, 1♠-3♥ and 1♥-2♠: 1. Suit+fit - it makes with an invitational hand with 4+ GOOD cards in the suit and fit. The shape is like ♠QJx♥xx♦AK10x♣xxxx - if your partner open 1♠ you simple raise to 3♦. 2. Minisplinters - it makes with an invitational hand with singleton or void in the suit and fit. The shape is like ♠AJxx♥KQ10x♦x♣xxxx - if your partner open 1♠ you simple raise 3♦. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.1. 1M-3♣ - it makes with GF or better hand, fit and any singleton/void.3.2. 1M-3♦ - it makes with fit and a good hand, but not so good to bid 2NT(limit raise to 3M). The shape is like ♠10xxx♥xx♦KJ10x♣Axx I hope that these methods will help to somebody! :) Stefan
