Echognome
This hand is similar to a hand I read in the newspaper, but since I don't have the newspaper handy, the hand will be my memory of the actual hand. You are playing a natural system (SAYC, Acol, 2/1, SEF, whatever).[hv=pc=n&s=saj5ht7532dak83c5&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p1s2c]133|200[/hv]What now? TWO4BRIDGE
3C! , limit raise+ ( one more Sp and I would have splintered, 4C! )...... If you don't support now, your side may be a in a quandry if West raises to 5C ....
gnasher
Playing Acol, I'd bid 2♥, because we may not have an eight-card spade fit. In SAYC or 1/2, I'd bid 3♣ and then bid game over a signoff. I'm not sure what 3♣ means in SEF.
JLOGIC
3C, I'd often bid 2H with this shape but not with this honor distribution obviously.
JLOGIC
In SAYC or 1/2, I'd bid 3♣ and then bid game over a signoff. I think 3C is GF in SAYC and 3S is limit, so there is no signoff over 3C!
Echognome
By the way, the paper didn't give a system, but since it was an American newspaper, the implied system is probably SAYC.
mtvesuvius
I'd bid 3♣, but there is something to be said for 4♦ :)

Otherwise I will bid 3♣ and follow it with 4♠
Phil
I think supporting spades is very important here in a 5 card majors system. With a singleton club, I am concerned that I will hear a large number of clubs on my left, and we will poorly placed if I get cute with 2♥. whereagles
Definitely 3♣ support. If you're going to dbl or bid 2♥ you might hear some bothersome nr of clubs from LHO.
