dake50
None, I'm punting 6S now.
MrAce
5♠ for me, even at this vulnerability and any scoring type. I am not bidding 6,no way .Yes we may make slam perhaps, but sometimes preempts win. Pd may have started with a very shapely weak take out dbl too, which probably makes DBL now a better bid if so, but i will stick with my 5♠ bid. :) Double is my 2nd choice. the hog
I would bid 5S at any form of the game. 6 is off the planet.
jschafer
I bid 5♠ at the table, this was the full hand:[hv=pc=n&s=skj8763hqj5da62ct&w=sa5ha72dt85ckj973&n=sqt94hk864dkq93c4&e=s2ht93dj74caq8652&d=w&v=e&b=16&a=1cd5c5sdppp]399|300[/hv]

Hanoi5
I bid 5♠ at the table, this was the full hand:[hv=pc=n&s=skj8763hqj5da62ct&w=sa5ha72dt85ckj973&n=sqt94hk864dkq93c4&e=s2ht93dj74caq8652&d=w&v=e&b=16&a=1cd5c5sdppp]399|300[/hv] Your partner had quite a minimum double, tough luck. nigel_k
Your partner had quite a minimum double, tough luck.Yes, but partner's minimum double is enough for +800 on defence. I'm not convinced this was bad luck though I could be resulting having seen the full hand.
cherdano
Clearly against this particular East it is right to double.

whereagles
5♠ is rather obvious, I think. No way I'm doubling 5♣. Tough luck the dbl was probably as light as it gets.

fromageGB
Does your partner have a warning on his card - "Takeout doubles may be made with utter rubbish?"

mcphee
I do think 5S is an easy choice. Dble is not my preference regardless of result. I do not want to yell about this t/o dble. a bit skinny yes, but not at all so poor for any aggressive partnership. To see calling this rubbish is a bit too much. Facing the same hand, but alter the K of H to the ace and that is going to be enough to call it an ok t/o dble? Are n/s then not on a hook for a make? gnasher
TNT = 21, in theory :) but 18, in practice :( Aren't you supposed to add extra tricks when each side has all the minor honours in its own trump suit?
gwnn
jeez pd could you be any lighter? give me a jack (or a 10 count with an ace) and I'd double from his seat always, and I admit I'd be awfully tempted to x also with this hand - perhaps even do it, so I should not be casting any stones
gwnn
These days it is essential to have two double cards in your bidding box. One for light shapely t/o and high-level takeout doubles, the other one for sound t/o and high-level penalty doubles.
the_dude
When you make takeout Xs with the North hand, you accept that hands like this will burn you now and then. I still think it's the winning strategy (far more wins that losses) but this hand is exhibit A of the downside. Likewise with the South hand .. you pretty much have to bid 5S (after all partner could really could have his bid) but the soft cards and duplication in club shortness are warning signs that if partner doubled on a mini then you are headed for a poor result.
