And if there is a limit, why can't I go and undo some of my "likes" when I find a post that was better than my previous top ten? Am I expected to read everything and then pick out the best 10? This is pretty silly, and having a limit is even sillier! Normally I barely use 3 a day (and only on those days when I bother reading the forums, which is actually down to many fewer days than it used to be since the new interface was introduced, which was a new subject) but sometimes I read more and wish to use it more! I just don't understand why there's a limit. Is it really a concern that someone will state that they like a lot of posts? We are open to increasing it to a higher number, or better, give more active users more votes (though not sure how to do this without creating more groups). They don't need a vote, THEY POST!!!! It's people who read all the posts but don't feel the need to repeat what others say who need more votes! Honestly, I don't usually use more than 5 or 6 plus votes a day, but there are times when I feel that many posts on a given day "deserve" an up-vote. I give plus votes for a number of reasons, but as Elianna and Matmat said, it is often used to agree without posting "I agree with everything XXX said". It would be nice if plus-votes could be non-anonymous as well if possible. Similar to the way a Public Poll is displayed. This way it could truly be used as an "I agree with" statement, and not just an anonymous way of making people respect the post more (although it usually will have the same effect) I don't believe that removing the limit will dilute the value of plus votes, since people use them sparingly in the first place. Perhaps this is because of the limit, but there is only one way to find out... One last quick request is that I'd like to be able to go to a member profile and "Find Upvoted Posts", or at least be able to search by number of plus-votes. I didn't get any upvotes the last two times I asked for this. Are people biased against me? Also, congratulations to Elianna on improving her reputation from 0 to 12 with a single thread. You can argue that a more frequent reader than poster needs the ability to upvote more than the other. However, a forum needs to track user activity in some ways. Since there is no easy way to track how many posts each person reads, most forums will track it with post count or some other stat like that. The more post count you have, the more activity you are assumed to have (in general), and so demonstrate the need for some permissions those with lighter usage don't require. There also need to exist a limit. If the limit is something like 1000 votes/day, would a positive vote count as much? The votes are per day, and most posts don't disappear - if you care so much about a post, and have used up your votes, come back the next day and vote for it with a fresh supply. For a walled off community like BBO, it wouldn't matter. However, for generic community forums like reddit (www.reddit.com) and hacker news (news.ycombinator.com) voting posts up/down is at the heart of their business model and the voting algorithms and limits are carefully designed.
