kuzim
I'm a computer support techie who recently migrated a user of BBO to a new computer. His old computer used the 4.x series client and he's explained to me that there are changes in the 5.x series clients that he's not comfortable with. I've looked through the website but unfortunately I cannot find any sign of the 4.x series clients. The only reference I've found (without much looking) is a beta with a dead link. Is there an archive of old versions of BBO available? Thanks.
TylerE
Honestly I can't even imagine. Pretty sure they were already pushing 5.x when I signed up - which was almost 5 years ago.
Gerardo
Because of protocol changes, 4.x does not work with currently running BBO server.
Rain
After you get the "new" client for him, press Ctrl + C to go back to the "classic look". Maybe he is unfamiliar with interface changes, and prefers the older look. The reason I said "new" is, even this is an old client. The new BBO is the web version. http://www.bridgebase.com/index.php, click Play Bridge Now to use.Strongly suggest you steer him there and teach him how to use that. This has got to be more easily accessible than any older versions of BBO, and will work across more platforms.
kuzim
Because of protocol changes, 4.x does not work with currently running BBO server. He was using 4.7 before and it seemed to work well enough. I'd like to test it out all the same. After you get the "new" client for him, press Ctrl + C to go back to the "classic look". But I'm also working as hard as I can to enable him to continue enjoying what he enjoys with as little retraining as possible. The real "problem" is that he's somewhat set in his ways and the ideal solution would be to convince him to upgrade to the web software. For my part, I don't know the software (or the game) well enough to re-acquaint the two. Finding the old client and seeing that it worked is a third option that would yield the quickest solution without hitting the other barriers... except that I can't find it, which is at this point an insurmountable obstacle. I'll suggest that he continue with the 5.x series client he's got, but with the hope that the older client turns up at some point. He's using it and he plays quickly enough once he's in a game, and so I think he'll probably manage. He says that the standalone in classic mode has differences that bother him, but I'll chalk it up to ghosts for now.
Gerardo
You'd need a version of BBO server which is not available anymore (and won't be available in the future). Please describe the changes youmentioned in the OP. AFTER switching to classic view
