Is this South hand worth exploring game by using Ogust?

No. Playing sound weak 2's we're off 3 bullets at the very least.

It's close and depends on the agreements about suit quality.

 

If your agreement is to open JTxxxx I would pass or maybe bid 3♥ to block opps communication.

If partner is required to have at least one of the top 3 for a weak 2, than we won't miss 4 aces and I would try Ogust.

Never. You are around the lowest points that could consider game, but you have the worst shape and the slowest values. If you desperately needed a swing you could try 3nt, as that is likely to be as good or better than 4♥, but really a pass is advised.

I guess one can construct a hand opposite which game is good, but that requires specific layouts with specific working cards...ogust can't tell you whether his 'good hand' is a working good hand or a waste of cards. Kx AJ109xx Jx Qxx is too much for a weak 2, yet offers no play for game, while many poor hands fail at the 3 level.

 

This is to me a choice between pass and 3♥, and my defence is good enough that I'd probably pass.

Given that we have KQ in hearts, p will have an outside value,

but I dont come close to counting 10 tricks, you have

 

# 6 heart tricks

# 1-2 diamond tricks

# 0-1 trick corresponding to his out side value

 

overall this makes game less than 50% most of the time, if you

happen to play short suit showing bids after a weak two, than it

may be wortwhile to give it a try, since a club single would be

good news.

I wouldn't explore game. If partner happens to have short ♣ we might have game, but we can't ask this using Ogust...

At pairs the issue to me is should I advance a level or not. Most of the time partner will have 2 or less S giving the opps an 8 fit they are likely to uncover if allowed at the 2 level. I do not believe we would struggle to make 110 and 140 is likely if not some good luck 170. Although my hand has defense I have no intention of defending 2♠, I bid 3♥and double from that point onward :P

We will normally be off 4 top tricks, even when partner has 2 aces.

I like pass. The hcp might be evenly spread so there's a chance that we might buy the contract. I will of course compete to 3H if necessary.

I like 3H. It is of course possible that 2H is passed out and I regret my choice.

I like pass and gamble a penalty X if they come in; I might try 3NT if greedy for a swing, but ♥ game is so unlikely that its not worth trying for.

Thats unfortunate. Because had he just passed on this hand and allowed you to open, with Axxxxx hears and a black ace you might get to the game that will roll most of the time.

 

But since he may or may not have 2 aces, u can never risk it with this.
