Phil
An agricultural 5♣, assuming the opponents are not drinking and respect their r/w. At equal, double is appealing.
karlson
This must be a laws issue or something. How am I playing with straube and not playing a fancy strong club system? Anyway, I would double.
straube
This must be a laws issue or something. How am I playing with straube and not playing a fancy strong club system? Anyway, I would double. Sadly this was a BBO occasional partner who doesn't play a strong club. I did double with the hand and found partner to have xxx x Qx AKQJxxx. Yep, we ate it. Hadn't discussed if we were playing 3N opening as gambling, but I kind of want partner to pull with this sort of hand. Maybe manufacture a 3S bid? mtvesuvius
I'd double as well. Seems too likely we are beating this a couple tricks, and if partner has long solid clubs, he's allowed to take another call, such as 3N or 4♣. Edit: Just saw your reply. That seems like a clear pull IMO. A 3♠ call would work nicely as a Last Train to 3N, and I think that's the bid with your partner's hand. andy_h
In the ideal world you'd like to double to ask partner for a heart stopper because if we only have 1 heart stopper, we'd like to distinguish if our clubs are running or not. If not then you'd want to be in 5C. With certain agreements you might play X as asking for a (half)stopper and partner can bid 3S showing half and 3NT with a full one. However given that we have KQ tight of hearts it is most unlikely that partner will have Qx nor Ax to be bidding 3S/3NT so I don't think double is going to help. Partner is certainly not going to read our double as penalties nor do I think he will be passing the double if our X was stopper ask. Given that I don't know how running our clubs are, I will also go with the pedestrian 5C.
