If south opens 1S, west will double. East has a weak 3424 distribution. If north redoubles, east will pass (showing choice of at least two suits), and west will bid 2C is allowed. If North passes, east will bid 2H. If north bids, east will pass.

I

f south passes initially, west will open 1C and east will pass.

In oridinal problem There were pairs ending in 3NT (bad), 4S (sometimes making but more often not) and 5D (5 pairs out of 17, always making). One pair

ended in 3S (scoring well in MPs) and one pair got to 5S.

In our event, the contracts were:

2SS

4SS

and

two in 5DN[/hv][hv=pc=n&s=sa2hqdqtcaqjt7654&n=skq853hadaj754ck8]133|200|Board 12, Dealer West, Vul N-S

East overcalls 4H, West bid 5H

Everyone bid 7C by south. So no need to score this one.

I submitted problem 11 but without opposition bidding, it came from a club game. Our teammates bid 1S - 2D - 2H - 3D - 3NT - pass. I believe they agreed that 3NT on Jxx was wrong, I'm not convinced the final pass is right either. Perhaps the uncontested auction should go

1S - 2D

2H - 3D

3S - 4D?

5D

Actiually, i need to give credit to everyone who submitted hands. Yes, Han submitted this one. However, I am confused by his suggestion that he did so without the opposition bidding, since i cut and pasted the bidding instructions directly from his message to me about this hand. So at least I thought this was the opposition bidding he was suggesting.

Valardent also submitted a few hands (two or three), and one member who wants not to be credited submitted two hands. I will have to go check who submitted the which ones to offer up the correct credits.

Oh really? I am sure you are right then.

I think what happened was that at my table, I doubled as west, but at the other table, west passed over 1S. I don't actually remember what happened at my table, because in the postmortem we were discussing what they should have bid at the other table.

Our auction on 11 was 1(limited)-X-4-AP. I'm not sure I agree with partner's choice of 4 here in a bidding contest (I feel better about it IRL though still not my choice), but I wonder how that affects the defense. Odds are there's a club lead from AK if West has it, but if he doesn't, then he probably leads from hearts? Not sure if that affects anything here, but it lets our side retain control and make easily on a 3-2 trump break.

Secondly, another script change happened at our table on board 12:

1(16+)-4-6-6! and then my partner found the heroic raise to 7. I'm not sure if we'd find 7NT if West passed, but this did deviate from the script.

Edit: Thoughts on what 6 should mean in an auction like this?

First, that was a typo... It was suppose to be a jump to 6 (not to 5), and 6 was bid at all tables (often without a jump, since NS was in 6 before the 6 bid gets made.

As for the hands, on board 11, here are the scores...

5 = 9

3 = 5

4 = 4

TylerE-Bidemup maintain their lead, and stretch it over the previously closest competition.

For board 12. I was fairly sure the competition would prevent finding 7NT, which is what happens, but when submitted, I thought it would be worth seeing.

7N = 11

The other scores don't really matter, as everyone bid 7. I assign this contract a respectable 8. With everyone in 7, this had no effect on the current standings.
