Gib response to Michaels

Played this hand today in GIB tournament

E/W Vul, N/S nonvul

E Gib opened 2S

I bid 3S (michaels promising 5H + 5 unspecified minor. We are non-vul so gib should know I must have points as well as distribution

Full bidding: 2S - 3S - 4S - *(by my Gib) P - P - P

Explanation highlighted for my Gib dbl says only 4-8 hcp, nothing about distribution

Hand result - 4S making 5

My Gib is holding a 6 cd H suit headed by the KJ, and also has the AS.

The double under this circumstance makes NO SENSE at all, since bot can compute that we have 11 cd H fit, and no defensive tricks.

There may be better ways I could have bid my hand - but surely the GIB is in error!

Hands are as follows:

E: KJ9864,10, A1084, 92

S: - , AQ874, QJ3, AQ876

W: Q7532, 5, K65, KJ103

N: A10, KJ9632, 972, 54

What did it think 3S was? Surely not a long spade suit? Why did it dbl 4S? Cant be asking me to bid-when it has a clear suit preference.

It took your 3 as 19+ points, nothing about distribution. With a total partnership holding of 27+ HCP, GIB doubled for penalty assuming that opps were never going to make 4 with only 13 HCP.

Look at what GIB takes your bid to mean by letting your mouse hover over the bid before you click on it if you are not sure. Click on your 3 bid in bradley's hand diagram above to see.

So, I see two questions here:

(1) Should GIB's system be changed to recognize 3 as Michaels? Either way, GIB's system notes should be improved to indicate when Michaels applies and when it doesn't, regardless of the fact that you can mouse-over prospective bids before making them.

(2) Did GIB run simulations to determine that double was better than 5, or was this a logic-based decision?

Probably not. Although it shouldn't be "19+ any shape" either. Most decent players use 3 as a spade stopper ask for 3nt, holding a strong running minor and some outside (non-spade) tricks. 4m is used to show two-suiters holding the other major. (2)-3 is probably both majors.

Well it shouldn't have made (one loser in each suit but given you were playing with a GIB- no surprise it made. 5 H has no play.

Logically you should lead a heart assuming GIB has Kx or x and then say stupid GIB as opener can't have 5+ hearts. Then try Ace of clubs and another hoping for a ruff. The when GIB gets in surely it leads a diamond. As always GIB has no good logic- if you have 6Hearts, they are probably worth zero or one trick in defence so even if you believe the cue is 19 Total points then you have to bid hearts. Partner has another long suit worth one trick in defence.
