andreakis
during our team match this week I encountered interesting play problem we nv opps v you hold as N ♠KJ1096♥96♦AKQ2♣K5 dealer south N E S W p 1D(unbal or 444(1))1S x 2S 2nt(or 5-5 minors or 6+diamonds)4S ppp lead J♦ dummy ♠A75♥743♦1043♣J1064 how do you play it
gnasher
It looks like East is 4612. I cant pick up ♠Qxxx onside without suffering a ruff, so I play for a singleton queen offside.

655321
It looks like East is 4612. I cant pick up ♠Qxxx onside without suffering a ruff, so I play for a singleton queen offside. I suggested something that didn't make sense, original post is hard to follow.Playing with the new diagrams: [hv=pc=n&s=sa75h743dt43cjt64&n=skjt96h96dakq2ck5&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=p1d(unbal%20or%20444%5B1%5D)1sd2s2n(5-5%20minors%20or%206+diamonds)4sppp]266|200[/hv] Edited November 2, 2010 by 655321
inquiry
Assuming 655321 has the bidding and explainations correct. West looks to be 5-5 in the minors. East does not have a take a look lead (like from AK of hearts), and the !DJ is singleton. West has at least one of the top two heart honors, so at most two spades. Can East have 7 hearts? They would be KQJTxxx at worse, and we would have heard some kind of heart bid over 1♠ (maybe even 4♥). So East has at most six hearts, and might have only five, in which case West is void in spades. I can't take a 4-0 spade split, as after !SJT win, I have to win third spade in dummy and I have no entry to my hand to pull the last ♠. They will get 2♥, 1♣, and a ♦ruff So I play East for six hearts, and three spades. I cash ♠K then pass the ♠J. Eventuallly, I will lead a club towards the king. I plan to win 5♠, 4♦, and a ♣. wyman
It looks like East is 4612. I cant pick up ♠Qxxx onside without suffering a ruff, so I play for a singleton queen offside.this certainly looks like the only way to me also. edit: If the Q doesn't come down, I'll still run the SJ; Qxx onside would then be my only hope. andreakis
I played the same line, cashed K♠ and finessed the queen the spades were 4-1 and I went one down.West had♠x♥AQxx♦xxxx♣AQxxthe bid was alerted at other side of screen, my partner didn't ask, opponents don't have convention card and west said she wanted to bid weak 4 card raise in hearts and that system shows 5-5 minors or 6+ diamonds, do you think there is a chance director can adjust the score.
