I am hoping declarer has something like KQxxxx KJxxx x x, as this seems to be about the only hand that fits 2nd round control in Diamonds, as well Club shortness. Opposite the expected Axxx AQx(x) AQ(x) AJx or something, it seems the only chance of beating this is a Heart ruff on opening lead.

I lead the H-T, and hope for the best. If nothing else, maybe this won't give away anything, and we can sit back and eventually take a trick.

Choices seem to be a trump or a club.

The trump lead is a "fall back" standard lead against grand slams, especially when no surprise will happen in trumps (they have AKQ and I have only two so they are breaking nicely).

A club can break up potential double squeeze (both is clubs, me in diamonds, partner is hearts), or compound squeeze (we both keep a club guard after I lead a club).

So, I guess I will lead a small club.

RHO has a singleton club, LHO apparently has a singleton diamond, and the opponents have all the trump honours. A trump lead is the only thing that might do any good, and is certain not to cost.

A heart lead may not be as safe as it looks - it may help them to pick off partner's doubleton queen, it may save a guess as to which finesse to take, or it may set me up for being squeezed. The thought of leading a club horrifies me.

That was another case I didn't consider actually, I suppose LHO could have something like AKxx AJ7x x AJxx (or AQ7x, same problem) and RHO having something like QJxxx Kxxx AQx x is also possible... Maybe a lead isn't as safe as I thought. And if I am going to lead a , perhaps there is a case for a low heart?

Why is that? Knowing that RHO has stiff club, a club lead is safe. Maybe dummy has AKJ and declarer wouldn't finesse at trick 1.

Because I'd temporarily forgotten that RHO had shown a singleton, even though I'd mentioned it in the preceding paragraph. I agree that it's safe, unless RHO can still have a club void.

I presume that they have a way of showing void in response to 4NT. But I am not certain of that. I was just saying that a club lead isn't horrible.
