IMPs

1S-4H (splinter)

4S-P

2) Jx xx AQJxxx Txx

2D P P 4H

AP

Hand 1, opps have slam invitational, lack KQ on dummy's shortness and we are suposed to defeat game?, I would lead K to avoid overtricks at MPs, at IMPs it might be best to just avoid overtricks too, but if I am gonna find a way to defeat we need something very different, so a trump or a low club are the leads. Low club for me.

Hand 2 I'd lead a club.

1. A - and I think this is pretty clear.

2. Low club on general principles. I'm sure I could come up with some exotic constructions that cater to just about any lead, or that show how any particular lead is the only lead that does not work.

1) i'd lead a low club, since we have nearly all the defensive assets and we can see they are wasted in hearts I would try to place partner with a club honour and hope declarer has several clubs. Low club wins over the ace when partner has Kx or the Qx with the K in dummy (probably). A clubs wins when partner is singleton but if that is the case there is no transport back to hand and declarer might just play ace and another spade.

2) JS looks fairly clear to me.

1. I think it is close between a low club and the club Ace. I doubt that either will prevail, but maybe partner has a stiff club and the heart Ace or a slow diamond winner or he has Qx in clubs and the suit is 3-3 with the K in dummy. The former argues for the Ace, the latter for the low. Throw in that the low club may cost a trick (probably only an overtrick) when dummy has Jxx(x) and partner holds K10(x)(x) and I go for what I see as slightly more likely probability-wise: the club A

2. Spade J. Low club distant 2nd, no 3rd or 4th choice
