mtvesuvius
[hv=pc=n&s=sakqt8653hdat98ct]133|100[/hv] RHO passes, you are W/W and playing a Strong Club system and are not playing Namyats. What do you open? If you open 1♣: LHO bids 1♥, partner will Double to show 5-7 HCP, and RHO will bid 5♥, What now? If you open 1♠: LHO bids 2♥, partner will pass, RHO will bid 4♥, over your assumed 4♠ bid, it will go 5♥ by LHO, back to you. Now? If you open 4♠: That will be the final contract. mikeh
I'd open 1♣, because I own the boss suit. I simply won't be able to convey this playing strength if I open 1♠. As for what next: the hand is almost good enough to pass 5♥ and pull the double (I assume that this auction is forcing) but I don't think it quite adds to enough.....partner's 5-7 hcp have to be very specific to make slam good, and bidding 5♠ may allow him to evaluate well anyway.
