If you click on your name at the top right position of the page, you get a list of options, the last one is the ignore list.

You can enter the name of the poster you don't what to see, and i guess you no longer see his posts .....

Thanks. I was looking for a button on one of their posts or something in their profile.

And, it does appear to work, I don't see the most recent post from someone I ignore tested.

When I clicked on the "View New Content" link today, I was shown a list of topics, some of which had been read (and had no new-to-me content) some of which had new-to-me content. Is this the way it is supposed to work?

Think you need to mark the board as read (there is a link for that at the very bottom of any thread).

In the "View New Content" page, in the View New Content title line, there is a "mark all boards as read"

I finished reading new forum posts at midnight, and clicked "mark all as read". When I signed onto forum at 11am, I clicked "View New" and got a list of about 30 threads. I started with the oldest of them and worked my way up. I only have time to get to anything that was posted prior to 7am. I would like to mark everything I have seen as "read", but not the newest stuff which I haven't yet gotten to. I'd like to either (i) mark a thread as read, or (ii) adjust my "last read" time to 7am, so that when I come back later only things posted since 7am appear on my "View New" list. Thanks!

  1. Use the "Mark board as read" link, in each thread, at the very bottom.
  2. View New Content->Mark all threads as read, does exactly this, unless I am mistaken.

I signed on and read some threads that I knew I was interested in. Then I went to new content to see what I had missed. What I had "missed" was lots of threads that I had just read. Note, the little icons next to them indicated no new content, but they still appeared in the "view new content" section.

"board" appears to refer to all threads, as they all get marked as read, not just the one thread I am reading. When I then click on "View New", there is nothing there.

I just clicked "Mark this forum as read" in the General Bridge Discussion forum, and then went into "View New Content". The threads from this forum were in there, but they don't have the little orange arrow icon next to them.

I think "new" content is any thread that has been updated since the last time you logged out or marked everything as read. The orange arrow icon indicates whether the thread has any unread messages, and clicking on the icon takes you to the first unread message in the thread (just as it does when viewing the thread list in the forum).

I think you are right, but I don't think of "read" content as "new" content. It doesn't seem at all useful to me to show me content that I have read when I select "view new content".

As you point out, there is no orange arrow (and the larger icon no longer indicates unread posts) so the software is capable of distinguishing between content that is new to me and content that I have read (or marked read).

You can change this in "My Settings" ("View New Content Method"), I believe.

I think the default should be changed, however.

I've never understood how people find "View New Content" to be useful. The problem is that it includes threads in all forums, not just the forums you read. Even if you use this preference setting to filter out threads you've read, you still have to wade through all the threads in forums you don't care about.

I never saw "View New Content" in the old forum, so I don't know whether it was an option there. Generally, I look at all forums, but am only interested in some threads within each forum. I'd like to be able to mark threads with "don't show me this thread".

I'm finding it useful in two ways. When I've read what I think looks iteresting in the forums I generally read, I then go to "view new content" to see if anything I've missed appears interesting. And, when the time between visits is short, "view new content" does not entail lots of wading through topics.

I suppose I will adjust to this over time, but I can't help

thinking I am reading Timothy Toucan whenever I see this:

* PM this member

It's rather predominate over the actual username. If we were at

least allowed to change this, I pick my own name and then people

would associate my posts with me, and not Molly the Mule or

whatever critter I happen to be lumped into today.

Not an urgent issue but a puzzling design, when the user identity

is separated off and parked up in the banner, blue on blue.

Member ranks (based on menagerie) are now removed. You can edit your profile to add your own title if you like.

Member ranks may make a triumphant return at some point, but they are distracting from Member names, as pointed out :), and they were getting stale. The dots remain to indicate post level.

Some hand diagrams are impossibly small. Apparently some Browsers will zoom in on the more usefully, but with Opera I simply can't read them. Example: "ATB" in non-natural systems discussion.

In the thread MGoetze is referring to, the very small diagram was replaced by a proper-size one, and we got this explanation:

Reason for edit: Changed diagram size using HV instead of direct link

How do we access/use HV instead of direct links when we're linking a diagram from http://online.bridgebase.com/myhands/index.php ? (This would be an example of "teach a man to fish"...)

things between {} are variables, comments are optional.

Remember at this time myhands IDs are gone after a couple of months, the link showed in the myhands window could be a good alternative (with the hand described as LIN).

Ok... trying to see if I can do this with the last hand I played...

So, using the info at the bottom of the screen when I mouse over the "Movie" link in myhands, I need to put this into the form of

[hv=myhand=M-3334119-1289187901]400|300[/hv]

where 400 and 300 are the dimensions of the display I want.

[hv=myhand=M-3334119-1289187901]400|300[/hv]

Excellent! Thanks!
