check or raise?

Recommended Posts

We were playing matchpoints with my regular pard and we had a disagreement about a board.

1-p-1-2

p-p-2-p

p-3-p-p

3-p-p-p

I'm sorry I don't have hand records and this was a while back (actually I'm only posting because nobody else has been posting anything for the last hour or so) but say the hands were something like (note I'm attempting to hide my identity but maybe it won't work):

2 bidder had 3622 and 10 points

3 bidder had 2344 and 8 points

field got 110 or 140 in hearts, it looked obvious to us that we'd make 140.

2 bidder asked his partner why he didn't raise directly

3 bidder said he did raise but only when needed, he didn't want to turn a plus into a minus. also why did the 2 bidder misdefend?? it would have been down 1 EZ

2 bidder told his partner he no longer understood anything from the bidding, he didn't expect a 2344 8 count, anyway the board was lost

3 bidder said they should play the next round instead

your general thoughts? opps were not playing support doubles but of course we didn't know that.

The 3 bidder has a point that you should concentrate on the next round. I guess he also suggests to discuss this deal afterwards which is definitely a good idea.

I think it's better to raise immediately, since overcaller may have a good hand and you could miss an easy game.

Sounds like an easy raise to 3 the first time.

"I did not expect 2344 8-count...". This is almost always just a bad excuse for having done something silly on defense. There are exceptions but they are far between. ;)

Agree.

I really dislike having a discussion like this while playing btw, even when I play a club game.
