We felt hard done by on the top hand, we played 4N after W psyched 1 off a 2443 pile, 6N is revolting requiring the clubs to behave, the spade finesse and a miracle in the diamond suit. At every other table, a diamond was led from Q10xx and 6N made (bid or not). They led a heart against us so 6N is horrible. 6 is better, 2 rounds of trumps, 3 rounds of hearts and spades and the third round club throw in works.

We played 6 on the second which had no play with KJx offside, getting to 6N is tricky. 6 has entry problems getting at the K.

P P 1H X

P 1N P 4N

I think north should be a little conservative since he thinks things aren't breaking and any potential heart hook is off (even if it's a total psyche he still rates to have 5 hearts imo). South of course will pass. This seems like a reasonable spot.

2)

1H 1S 2S 3S (2S = 3 card raise, limit+)

4C P 4N P

5N P ?

Edit: Actually 4N seems like a big overbid in retrospect, I would just bid 4D with the south hand.

With the knowledge that north is void in spades, the most likely shapes for north are

05(53)

0544

06(43)

06(52)

In each case it is very likely that 6N will play as well as 6H given that south's trumps are so bad, especially in the case of 0553 or 0535. Basically if north has 5 hearts then obviously 6H is very risky, and if partner has 6 hearts then the two pitches will often take care of any need to ruff a loser.

The form of scoring makes it obvious to bid 6N, but even at IMPs it seems very correct.

We duplicated your first auction, and got a really poor score :)

We play 4 card majors, so 2 was not really suitable, and I don't like it on such a flat hand, we bid 1-(1)-X-(3)-4-P-5-

5 showed specifically 3 bad trumps (might have been Jxx or 109x) and a good hand, partner opted for 6 rather than 6N as he couldn't guarantee a double spade stop. It was a poor enough field that a making slam would score above average, didn't have to be 6N. I think on his actual hand he should bid 6 in case I have 4 or fancy my 3 card holding.

Having looked at the hand on the club website now, I discover partner's hand wasn't as good as I thought, he's actually missing the J, J and 8, meaning that 6N is more awkward although can be made (clubs are 4-2, but you can cash 5 diamonds and 3 clubs, if E keeps 3 spades and 2 hearts you duck a heart, vice versa you cash 2 spades and endplay him by running the 10).
