jules101
[hv=d=w&v=n&s=skj75h7532dq53ca8]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] W N E S1♠ X 2♠ ? Double promises a shapely hand (if minimum) so should have 4 card ♥ suit (or 3 good ♥, eg AKT). 2♠ will be non-constructive. What's your bid, and why? billw55
Pass. Unfavorable vul, weak hearts, no shortness, spade honors not working on offense but might be on defense.
Gerben42
As usual, the answer to the problem can be found by thinking: What's going on? For one thing, partner has a singleton ♠, and LHO has 5 of them behind you. Furthermore, how are the HCP divided. I have 10, LHO perhaps 12, RHO 6 and partner the remaining 12. So far a pretty clear picture! We are about 22-18 ahead in HCP but ♠KJ are absolutely useless for offense. I would bid 3♥, not because I think it will be cold but LHO will be on lead and cannot lead a ♠. 2♠ is a likely make. Even 1 down will be -100 vs -110 and since it is "our hand" we are unlikely to be doubled. But I admit it is a close decision and could well result in the kiss of death (-200). I just feel that waiting for -110 isn't a good strategy. Maybe they bid 3♠ and go down.
P_Marlowe
Hi, If I pass now, my intention is to pass out a reopening double from p,and given my length p should stretch to reopen. If I dont want to defend 2SX, than 3H it is. I guess, I would go with 3H, but I dont mind pass. With kind regardsMarlowe
