WHAT is GIB thinking

Well I'm not GIB, but you promised 4+ and GIB has 6 to the K.

Combined 10+ should be "save" following the Law of Total Tricks.

You lost 6 tricks, 2 of them to AQ. Unfortunately you only had the smallest (J) of the 3 missing honors and the 4th trump, that you did not have, might have been worth an extra trick.

So with the hand GIB expected from you, making 10 tricks is no that unlikely.

SOMEBODY needs to re-read Larry Cohen's book. You are WRONG for two reasons. The first one is that the "Law of Total Tricks" only really works if you have between 18-22 points. Only if I have a true hand with a maximum should GIB jump. Second, the LoTT breaks down after 9 trump- you need distribution or overwhelming HCP to compete to 4. GIB had NEITHER of those. Therefore, I still don't see why GIB had to jump.

Robots are not trained to think, we haven't gotten that far with technology quite right. Regarding GiB's 4 bid, the extended law of total tricks does have it just right. Sure it's a little off, but not as much as you might think (make those Ks into As and I may well be doing the same thing, if I hadn't acted already)

EDIT: ok rechecking, it is 1 trick out on the extended version too, but the LOTT is hardly perfect, it's just what the gib uses. And 1 trick isn't that bad a deviation.
