JoAnneM
Isn't it true that there is a work around or translator for flash for the ipad? Seems like that was announced recently.
JoAnneM
I don't think we should give up yet. I REALLY want to play BBO bridge on my iPad. If BBO doesn't want to deal with HTML5 maybe this will eventually help: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2353810,00.asp Adobe to Translate Flash Apps for iPhone Granted this is all in early stages but the computer world moves in warp speed. I will ask Holly about it this weekend.

JoAnneM
Well that conversation didn't sound promising. Can BBO be rewritten using Html5? How many ipads have been sold, how many are bridge players. I could have had some converts today if I had had the app on my iPad at a social gathering we were at. Echognome
Seems like old news, but isn't this going to help? Apple relents on Flash-derived iPhone, iPad appshttp://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20015954-264.html
JoAnneM
That is pretty good news, at least a ray of hope. Funny though, my daughter-in-law who is product manager for iTunes and apps had not heard about this as of yesterday when I talked to her. Word must travel slowly in that huge company. Maybe if she would try bridge we would get somewhere.
barmar
Note this comment:But one thing is clear: Adobe didn't come to its decision to scrap its Flash-to-iOS project lightly, and resurrecting it wouldn't be simple. So it may be some time before this provides you with any help.
JoAnneM
I doubt very much if I am the only iPad owner who plays BBO so this is not a personal crusade. However I am beginning to think there is some sort of crusade going on here on the Forum.
mgoetze
Jo Anne, HTML5 is not a full-blown programming language. It is impossible to implement anything like a BBO client with HTML5.

However I am beginning to think there is some sort of crusade going on here on the Forum. Hi JoAnne, I see your concern but apparently so far it seems to be a fight between Apple and Adobe. Rewriting BBO in another language is a Big Deal , but I guess the rewriting process can be used when it is mature. I would support some kind of investment for creating a BBO Vugraph App of some sort. But I think we should wait a bit. Don't give up! (btw I don't have an iPad - might change in the future though)

Mbodell
Seems like old news, but isn't this going to help? Apple relents on Flash-derived iPhone, iPad appshttp://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20015954-264.html No, that doesn't support flash. That just means the Adobe product (CS?) that cross compiles to flash will work. That doesn't mean flash stuff will work. Jo Anne, HTML5 is not a full-blown programming language. It is impossible to implement anything like a BBO client with HTML5. yet. The goal of HTML5 is that it is a full-blown programming language. And as a front interface there is no reason one can't implement something like the BBO client with HTML5 (once all the features and support are done). barmar
I glanced at the HTML5 reference guide at w3.org, and didn't see anything that looked like a programming language (no variables, no if/then/else, etc.). It's still just a markup language.
hotShot
Of cause they mean the combination of HTML5, CSS and Javascript. The mobile vugraph mentioned above is a pure HTML/Javascript solution. The problem with Javascript is, that there are to many browser specific implementations that don't follow a standard. It would be to much trouble to get something as complex as BBO to run on lets say the 20 most popular browser (versions).
