jillybean
(P) 1♥ (4♠) ? You are playing kickback, how do you play X and 4N here?
kayin801
X is most definitely not kickback. 4NT can be RKC if you prefer it over being (ostensibly) pick-a-minor

mohitz
X = values4N = minors, but 4N = RKC is playable too.
kayin801
X = values4N = minors, but 4N = RKC is playable too. This, sorry, guess I coulda been clearer. You need to be able to show raw values here, otherwise you're stuck passing with some opening hands that have no good bid and if the opponents know this then they can bid 4♠ on pretty much anything when white. Free
I play Dbl is takeout, 4NT minors.
hanp
Double is negative (but will often be passed). A typical hand would be xx Qx AJxxx KJxx. 4NT shows the minors. A typical hand would be x x QJ10xxx AQJxx. I should note that 5H is "competitive", with a slam try in hearts you can bid 4NT and pull whatever partner bids to 5H. 4NT followed by a pull of 5C to 5D should be discussed, it could be either a slam try in diamonds, or diamonds and hearts, maybe something like x Axx AJ10xxxx Kx. I prefer it just shows diamonds. You would like to play penalty doubles, negative doubles, RKC, minors, bad raises, and various slam tries. Of course you cannot do all of that so you have to make some choices. I think "expert standard" is to give up on penalty doubles and RKC in this auction. However, after for example 1S - 4D, 4NT would be RKC. (not that 4NT as two-suiter is less useful there.)
Zelandakh
Double values. 4NT take-out, either for minors or as a slam try in hearts. Pretty much taking a normal 4S opening defence and modifying it to take account of the opening bid.
Phil
Stolen Bids rear their disgustingly ugly head. Agree with Han (even though I didn't read his post).
rogerclee
I wouldn't agree to play kickback if I thought double here could possibly be RKC for hearts (this is a serious comment).
hanp
Didn't read Roger's post but agree with him.
bucky
The need to show shapely hands (e.g. both minors at least 5-5), particularly in competition without much (any?) room, is infinitely more important than keycard check. Not to mean RKC being useless, but how many hands do you have such that you can bid RKC right after partner opens 1♥ and confidently place the contract based merely on keycards?
