It's not three small spades that I like, but HAK and C-single.

Now that would be an attempt to catch up, all right :rolleyes: Let's hope opener's pass of 4C was in tempo, so East is free to undo his previous decision at his own peril and keep the result, a good one on this hand

East is most definitely good enough to cuebid when it doesn't even force him any higher.

I think East has a very close call.....and this kind of problem is best dealt with in a forum context by posting the East hand and the auction and seeking opinions. Since we can all see that we should be in game, we get silly posts such as showing hearts and then forcing to 4♠....I would be willing to bet that we would see something else posted if opener were KJxxx Jxx xx AKx.

 

In my partnerships, we operate by the general principle of strong invites and light acceptances. This is demonstrably superior to the opposite in uncontested auctions....you miss the same number of games as light invites, heavy acceptances, while avoiding a lot of '3 down 1' contracts when the suits sit foully...making 2 overtricks in 2♠ while the others make 1 overtrick in 3♠ doesn't seem to cost very much.

 

An exception is when the opps apply pressure, as they did here.....as east, we will raise to 3♠ on many hands that would have raised only to 2♠ absent competition. This means that we should be a little more aggressive in making limit raises, especially since opener has no game tries available over a wide-range 3♠.

 

Therefore I think that East is (just) worth a limit raise, which for many of us, and me, is a 3♦ cue.

I agree now, but since partner blamed me for not bidding 4♠ I was trying to see how much blame I could get, he blamed me for everything this season, just wondered if these one was my fault too.
