pooltuna
A2AKAJ105 1C - p - 1H - Dbl?? well 6♣ should be playable as your pard bid the suit where you have a worthless doubleton and an 8 card suit is nothing to sneeze at. Little Kid
I wouldn't open this hand, with only 8 cards I probably won't be getting a lot of tricks!
jonottawa
Pass (showing doubleton ♥) I'll explain to partner later that passing and then bidding 5♣ shows more than bidding 5♣ directly. Of course this also gives partner the best chance to describe his hand (it's important that at least one of us do that) and maybe I'll have a better picture of whether or not we have slam on the next round. Hanoi5
I'll also go with Pass if Redouble is support. I could redouble (if it ain't support) or reverse into 2♦.
ONEferBRID
Using gnasher's "toy" again ( 2S! GF, artificial ) for a 1H response : Ax xA KA J T x x x x x 1C - ( p ) - 1H - ( X )2S! - ( p ) - 2NT! ( asks for clarification )??... 3C! = long Cl, no 3h, no 4s... 3D! = 4s, no 3h, 5+c... 3H! = 3h, no 4s, 5+c... 3S! = 4s and 3h Now if I only knew Responder's hand, I could continue after 3C! aguahombre
Gawd, I hate using "2" to show xx :)
kayin801
2♦ obv Hopefully this followed by 4♣ after whatever partner does shows something this good since we didn't bid 4♣ directly.

hanp
Partner had xx AK10xx QJxx Qx. We sort of stumbled into 6C, with opponents bidding 4S on the way. I asked a very fine bridge player and her partner what they would do. Independently they answered "this is why we don't play support redoubles!". Her partner mentioned that they play 2S artificial (somewhat similar to gnasher) without the double, but after the double they prefer to play it naturally. They also thought they might open 2C if they had no way to show a strong 1-suiter after opening 1C. Thoughts? About the notation, I agree that 2 instead of xx is a little off, but AJ105 works nicely as you don't have to count all the x's (of course, you could also count the cards in the other suits in the hope that I am giving a 13-card hand). gwnn
I was thinking of opening 2♣ but the hand is a little too weak for that I would say. Maybe with spades it would make more sense. Perhaps you can pass first round and cue next round?

Yeh, AJT5 works well, especially if there is an x or two somewhere else to make the "5" jump up and bite me. It is not unheard of for someone to post more or less than 13 cards. My first read was maybe AJT5 should have been AJT6. Then another poster fixed the heart suit for me.
ArtK78
I never entered into the original discussion of this shorthand notation, but I hate it. My 2 cents.
