NickRW
[hv=n=skqj8x&w=satxx&e=s9xxx&s=s]399|300|[/hv] Partner, a fairly solid player by club standards, but possibly a little prone to forgetting, leads a low one in this suit against a NT contract. Declarer plays high and takes the trick. Later declarer plays another high one and partner captures the trick with the ace. After this the only other card played in this suit, up to trick 12, is by declarer who discards the low one from dummy at some point. We arrive at this situation at trick 12 with east on lead: [hv=n=skqj8x&w=satxx&e=s9xxx&s=s]399|300|[/hv] You think, aha, I'll lead a low one, partner will put up the ten and I will take the last trick with the 9 (for 2 down and a good board as it might have happened). Wrong!!!! Partner has fogotten the lie of this suit and thinks you just finessed her into dummy - goes eenie-meenie-miney-mo with her cards and puts up the little one! A salutory lesson in not relying on partner when you know what should happen yourself - lead the $*@! nine next time dude. Nick
bucky
Actually, the lesson to learn is 3rd hand high in this situation, even if you think that won't matter.
