Playing on the hobby handball team, I will shoot my next penalty throw in the way which gets the most votes here ( unfortunately I am injured at the moment  ) Here is the classic 7m-throw position for a left-handed player (like me): I post if it will be a success or failure :P

I seem to remember someone telling me (I played handball like 3 times) that the best place to throw is somewhere above the keeper's head because he has to get there with his hands and that takes a lot of time, is this completely nonexistent in handball technique then?

This happens very often, but only in regular play, when the forward is able to jump high and the goalie remains on the floor. He throws from above through the keeper hands. Throwing 7m penalty one foot has to stay on the floor and the goal is 2m high. These are completely different situations.

Are there statistics about penalty succes in each direction?

I doubt that there are existing so incredibly detailed statistics about handball in Europe as in american football or baseball. / we are not so crazy in this point ;) / I know that in german top league the specialists in 7m-throw are in about 80% all throws successfull / per playing season.

I would suggest if at all possible that you find out whether the keeper is right handed or left handed, and then throw low to the opposite side.

As a left-handed player I would never throw low to the right corner, because having the right foot on the floor my body gets to the left side and this angle would make the throw diagonal what increases chances to keep it by the goalie. ( he stands usually 2,5-3m for the goal line )

Anyway nobody voted for it here.

I vote soft lob over goalie's head. This doesn't always work (of course) but it works surprisingly often against goaltenders who play far out of the net (like this one appears to do). And it's really embarrassing when it goes in. The goalie may quit from pure embarrassment if you score this way. :)

I have never heard of this game but it look dangerous.  No wonder you are injured.

There is much more physical contact between the players than f. ex in basketball, but this game is not very hard and fouls are not so dangerous. For sure less than in soccer.

My injury comes from a car accident I had two months ago.

In the 7m-throw situation the goalie has more chances to save if he doesn't stay on the line.

This tricky throw over the head is not so easy as it looks like. It requires the perfect feinting and a fine handoff technique. This way to throw is not so rare in professional handball. And there is really no reason for goalie's embarrassment.
