Echognome
[hv=d=w&v=n&s=s5ht2dakcqjt98762]133|100|Scoring: MP1♥ - 3♣*;3NT - ?[/hv]*Invitational 6+ clubs I understand some of you would choose to game force instead of making the invitational call. It was someone else's bidding and feel free to abstain. The questions are: 1. Have we landed? 2. Would our answer change at IMPs?
Phil
I suppose if I were to call this an invite in clubs, I really have to pass, but it seems like a small target which requires pard to hold a non-minimum and a double spade stop + one club honor where 6♣ does not fetch. Continuing my inconsistency, I will cue 4♦. Considering I would make this bid with two less clubs, 3♣ does feel like an underbid. Also in this style, don't I deny a doubleton heart (although an 8 card suit would overiide this?)
karlson
I would pass, don't see why we can't be off a couple of top tricks, while 3n looks pretty likely to make to me (I think partner should have quite decent spades). inquiry
"what do you call an eight card suit?" Answer: Trumps. :) On this auction, however, I have to pass, since i invited. In real life, i would not have invited, I would have forced.
gnasher
I don't think my earlier bidding bars me from removing 3NT - I can have invitational values and still be unsuitable for 3NT. As for what to do on this particular hand, I can think of nothing better than the suggestion at the end of Echognome's first sentence. That's fine but I can't see bidding 4♣ after an invitational 3♣ and sticking the 'forcing' label on it.
hrothgar
I have a clear maximum for my bid. Extra length in ClubsTwo near guarunteed side suit entries in Diamonds If 3N doesn't make, its not my fault... I'm more worried about missing slam than not making 3N. I suppose its possible that 3N could go down while 5♣ might make. However, I don't think that I can accurately assess this with the information I have available. Echognome
Partner's hand: ♠K86♥AKQJ5♦QJ85♣3 This time it was my partner who was off his rocker. Some complained about the initial invite rather than the GF. Our auction was: 1♥ - 1NT;2♦ - 3♣;All Pass
