Its probably the wrong vulnerability.

I once did psyche a 3 opening.

The bidding proceeded

3 ... lots of questions including "how many hearts does that show" eventually my LHO doubled

Partner passed and RHO bid 3 which pleased me as my hand looked much more like a 3 bid than a 3 bid

I passed and LHO repeated his barrage of questions and then bid 4!!!!!!

All passed :) - it wasn't an important tournament and i did not even bother to call the director.

Obviously if you were going to psych a spade bid you would want it to be 2 instead of 3, as it will steal spades from the opponents just as easily but with a little less risk of how high partner might raise you, plus if you simply get stuck playing it there you will be a level lower.

But on this I would choose 1, it's a bit light for me but way too much defense outside to preempt and passing doesn't feel right.

2H, not going to do anything brilliant red against white. 2H seems normal to me actually, surprised to see so many other votes.

I find nothing normal about showing the wrong number of hearts, the wrong quality of hearts, and the wrong number of outside honors.

1H feels about right, since it doesn't say anything other than I wanted to open 1H..

Agree with 2. It has more defence than partner will expect but offbeat preempts in third seat often work. 3 is too much. 1 is ok but I prefer to preempt and make them guess. There should be an analogous rule to Hamman's law that if one of your options is a preempt, then choose that one.

So this pair go merrily on their way, passing cue bids when there's been enough UI. If this is what you put up with in tournaments you must be easy pickings in a club game :o

I bid 1 here, nice to see I have some good company.
