peachy
[hv=d=n&n=sqjxhjxxdkxxcakxx&w=shdc&e=shqxxxxdaxxcqjxxx&s=sxxxhkxdj109xxxc9x]399|300|[/hv] Auction was 1C (P) 1D (3S) All Pass. North leads CA. We play UDCA and show attitude on leads. Our agreement is that against suits, if attitude is known from whatever source (bidding or dummy or the lead) then we show count, or show suit preference when obvious. Under these agreements: 1. What card should South play on the lead of CA?2. Does South know/should he know whether North needs/expects suit preference or count? 2. What card should North lead to trick 2? You have the benefit of both hands but I hope for answers on theory applied to this hand. TIA
CSGibson
I think it's necessary to show count, because its useful information, and you will be able to signal it correctly if you have 1, 2, 3, or 4 cards in the suit. If you have a stiff, though, you will have a hard time signaling suit preference without tapping your chest or polishing your rings. If your count is known from the auction, however, then suit preferrence would be appropriate.
Siegmund
Count certainly looks relevant to me. Opener might have 3 clubs and need to give me a ruff, have 5 clubs and need to switch immedidately, or have 4 clubs and need to think about whether to switch now or to cash the other high club and then take out dummy's entry. Fluffy
♣9, north should switch to diamond, the king is better when declarer has the queen, but low is bettter when partner has Q109 so it is close.
JLOGIC
I would give attitude, aka encourage with a doubleton since partner might be able to give me a ruff if he has 3433.

Basically in this position the needed clarity to show something other than attitude is missing. If someone thinks a trump promotion is ludicrous, consider this trump suit[hv=n=sjt9&w=sakq7654&e=s&s=s832]399|300|[/hv]
ONEferBRID
Whether you would call it Attitude or Count on this hand, you want to encourage with your doubleton. Suit Preference is not obvious here. If partner next leads the K and it holds, he will know whether Declarer has another... or not. What is obvious next is to remove the ♦A ... and he should lead the K.
