pirate22
What a delight for all--Kibbers-Commentators-and thanks to all involved.Sponsers included {Who are they}?? The Idea is on the lines of matchplay in Golf "Ryder Cup" a point came up,as with golf the contestants know how things are going, but in bridge, players do not know until each round is finnished.as Kibbers we are aware what the overall score position. It is and, was asked for comments should the bridge players have the same facility, current position---I vote "NO" it allows us as kibbers for play to continue, and the players strive to the end of a session.otherwise it allows a pair to jack it in, if they are aware they have had a bad session, and 2/3/4 boards may not be played. as in golf 3 up with 2 holes to play.It would be interesting to also get the players points of view...This a fine format, and agree improvements if any, would increase the pleasure all round. regards
peachy
The event website answers all your questions. The commentators posted the links to the website so often that I am surprised you missed it completely and never did find it in the Vugraph Schedule page either. Oh well. Acording to the bulletin nr 3: "the Bulletin staff don’t understand the scoring either" seems it was simply BAM (Board a Match) played in 3 phases 1) BAM Pairs (BAM Teams, but mixing pairs every round) 2) BAM Teams (Normal BAM Teams) 3) BAM Individual (BAM Teams, but mixing players every round) BAM is almost unknowed outside US but should be no problemfor top european players, it is close to MPs and most of the european players do play in prestigious US events (Reisinger ...) JLOGIC
The funny thing is they chose BAM because it will be easy for the public to understand (win the board, lose the board, tie the board), and people are saying this scoring is too confusing. twcho
USA claimed the title after Individual round 8 and the rounds left are garbage time. Everyone played like speedball and finished 6 boards within 25 minutes. Probably there should have some incentive provided for the players to keep playing at their best or else why don't just end the game like Ryder's Cup.
