[hv=d=s&n=sj96haq732da72ca4&w=sht9854dkj5cq9832]266|200|Scoring: IMP

Dealer is South

1N - 2 (!)

2 - 4N

5 - 6N

South (a friendly pro) volunteers they don't have any agreements about 4N.

You lead the 10, 2, K, 6.

Pard shifts to the 5. Declarer wins the A and fires four more spades at you. Pard started with T87542, and pitches the 4 and 7.

Plan your discards. Dummy sheds a diamond on the 4th spade. [/hv].

I only asked that so I didn't get gnashered :P Now that I look at the hand, pitching 2 clubs a diamond and a heart guarantees the set imo unless declarer has QT98 of diamonds and KJx of clubs in which case I can't do anything, anything else gets me progressive squeezed.

Well, I'm your pard, so I hope so.

Later I'll give you my hand and tell me if there is something more I can do.

That's nice, what do you pitch on the fifth spade?

edited out random stuff that was vaguely relevant when declarer seemed to have 5 spades

As usual signalling is irrelevant on this hand since we have a virtually guaranteed set heh

Sorry, I was concentrating on "wins the A and fires four more spades at you." Seemed plausible to me. I didn't read partner's original holding.

My bad - but the diagram is pretty clear about partner's spade holding.

Unless I'm missing something, this is the 'standard' defence to a progressive squeeze: you let dummy's suit go, otherwise you will get squeezed again on the suit you unguard.

Yes - this is the kind of ending that you read about in Love or Kelsey but rarely see at the table.

Pitching a heart is the winning play. As long as pard can beat dummy's 2nd diamond, we have a beat.
