4S over 4H?

I would, only at these colors, though I hate to admit it. In an ideal world RHO has 7-4 in the reds or something and there is a double fit. On a bad day I'll go for 300 or worse against a plus.

I usually follow a "rule" that you should only let them preempt you 1 level higher than you would have bid to voluntarily without the preempt, so here I probably would only compete to 2S so I'm violating my rule, but I feel like my hand being pure like this and the vulnerability being w/r changes things... probably I'm just getting pwned though.

Justin, you are r/w.

oh then I pass, sorry I'm really bad at reading the vulnerability on BBF threads for some reason heh.

Justin,

Could you explain this?

I would think that:

- If you can make 4S then it is more important to bid it when Vuln?

- When opps are Non-Vuln, then it is more likely that RHO is very weak and therefor more likely that you can make 4S?

- ..and when RHO can be very weak they LHO will not DBL you often?

A red against white 4H is different from a white against red 4H.

Was this an answer to my question in the post above it? If yes:

A white preempt can be weaker, so more reason for us not to pass?

4H at green can be based on less shape, or a weaker suit, which will tend to reduce the number of tricks they can make much more than it will increase the number of tricks we can make.

A red 4H bidder will usually expect to make the contract a fair number of times. That is either based on a very long and strong heart suit (good for us) or maybe on a strong heart suit with a good side suit in diamonds. In either case it is quite likely that at least one contract will make, and possibly both.

After a favorable 4H bid, it is very likely that both are down.

I made the fairly sick 4 call, most of the field seemed to actually. Some escaped a double for -200 or -300, we weren't so lucky, losing 800 when East doubled and West passed. However, teammates had us covered - they took 1100 on the same auction.[hv=d=w&v=n&n=skqt82hk6dkj82c84&w=s953h3dat97ckt532&e=sa6haqjt9875dq6c9&s=sj74h42d543caqj76]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
