Systems on?

similar to a weak 2M-2NT IMO, I play all transfer there and 3 would be stayman, but god knows what I'd understand on this sequence at the table :(

Bidding game without shortness and all the strenght behind seems too much, if able to try stop in partscore I would.

Unless I have discussed this precise sequence, it likely wouldn't occur to me that 2NT was natural.

Even on further reflection, partner isn't willing to play hearts even after my pass of 2HX, and isn't willing to try to penalize spades... gee, sounds to me like he's 31(54) or something.

I find it hard to picture any making contract for our side, including 3H, at this point. No way am I forcing to game.

Q1) not sure but apparently the meta-agreement ought to be "if no interference over any strong NT call, systems on." For me X is interference. For those who try to use "systems on over interference" I would think that would be a reasonable meta-agreement as well.

Q2) I would not force to game even though I suspect the 2NT caller is in the 18-20 range. The honor placement rates to be poor.

2NT looks kinda natural to me so i'd expect systems on. Defo xfers - i really want partner to declare whatever.

As for bidding game i'm not very sure at all - so i'd probably xfer and bid game. I'd really like to go back to last round and make a call that says i'd like to play 3H opposite partners "values". I think 3H then should have been to play and pass then 3H should show more.

I think that this is closer to

  1 dbl pass 1

  pass 1NT

than to

  1 1NT

so without agreement I'd assume system off.

Afraid you haven't discussed this precise sequence

I doubt if many people have, but the trick is to have a general agreement which covers it. Such as:

Apart from protective 1NT, front of card after all 1NT/2NT overcalls (but not after we double and bid notrumps)

I haven't discussed precisely this sequence, but I've discussed some similar ones, such as

2D (multi) x 2H P

P 2NT P ?

I would assume system is off.

Our opponents got to game on the auction

1NT P 2H P*

2S P P x

P 3H** P 4H

*they were playing double as hearts, not a strong hand

**the 3H bidder thought this was to play, and 2NT was scramble; the doubler thought it was a lebensohl auction.

I won't ruin the thread by saying if it made or not.
