Pass fo sho. A game our way is not a lock, some of the time when we have a game our way partner will balance anyways, and the other times that we have a game we will usually get 200 or 300 so it's not a disaster.

 

Going plus 100 or 200 instead of minus is a big gain though, and getting a huge number on a reopening double is also a big gain.

you wanna know your opps here. I reopen sick at these colors, but still I think I might be too heavy to expect action, specially if RHO can have 6 cards.

 

I'd bid 3NT at the table, probably to avoid hessitation problems to partner.

You really have to know your opp here if they are silly enough to bid 3♦ with xx xx KQJxxxx xx or x xx KQJxxxx xxx at these colors then a pass is justified. If Meckwell bid 3♦ here I would not expect to extract more than 500 and still possibly lose IMPS when we miss our +980.

Thought I would post a hand where my action worked for a change :) I passed on vugraph, replicating Townsend's action in the other room, for +100. None of the other 14 tables defended 3♦, although not all will have opened it on Jx xx KQJ7xxx xx. Most went -50 or -100 in 3NT or 3NT X.

Haha, I knew you were good at being disciplined enough to pass with a hand like this in this situation, so when I posted I assumed passing was the losing action :) Tricky tricky.

My opponents aren't programmed by a computer.

 

They just make life difficult.

 

So 3NT is clear for me.
