hanp
No blame, I wouldn't bid with either hand.
dake50
hanp: No blame, I wouldn't bid with either hand. EXACTLY. Expect 1-2-5-5 with 2xA +J to bid over 4S??!! Or 1-5-2-5 with AKQ working to come in at 5-level??!
aguahombre
We wouldn't get to 5c...If someone bid, we would get to six. 4s-1 is better, I think.
Fluffy
I'd bid with both hands, not sure if I'd stop in 5 or not.
OleBerg
I think I'd bid on both hands. If North bids 4NT, South has an easy 5♣ (allthough he might feel a bit uneasy). If North passes, and South bids 4NT, I would yield to temptation as North, going to 6.

ArtK78
I would definitely balance in pass out seat. Bidding in direct seat with the North hand is a bit much. I don't understand going to 6. Why are you punishing partner for balancing over 4♠? Sure, 6 might be on, but even 5 might be going down in some cases, and 6 might get doubled in those cases. How is balancing seat different from direct seat? This isn't the 2 level, it's not like RHO is suddenly going to jump to 6S and you'll be sitting there like OH THANK GOD I DIDN'T BALANCE. hanp
That's true clee, but sitting in balancing seat with short spades often means the hand lies well for your side, which is an incentive to act. Still, I agree with your point.
