Hanoi5
Say I'm playing 12-14 NT openings so I open 1♦ with: ♠AK7x♥KJ9x♦Axx♣xx 1♦-Pa-Pa-X What should I do here?
manudude03
I hear a lot of people advocate that 1NT shows this, but I much prefer it to be 18-19 (as strong NT), so I pass here.
nigel_k
You need an agreement but 1NT is not an option and I'd like to have some diamonds when I pass this. Either redouble or bid 1♥, depending on which is most likely to lead to us playing in a major rather than partner introducing a poor club suit. I'd also prefer to open 1♣ on this hand type. This wouldn't make the problem go away but would affect how you deal with it.
jdonn
I see this as a trivial pass. I would take either redouble or bidding a major suit as a better hand. In the case of bidding that could partly be in the form of distribution since I also think that shows longer diamonds. Are we worried partner doesn't respond in a major without 6 points or something? JLOGIC
Pass. Bidding here is not running, it is constructive. If you redouble you have a strong hand with good diamonds, if you bid 1H you have 4+H and 5+D. Partner is a bridge player too and if it goes 1D p p X p p he knows to run. I agree with JLogic entirely ... sounds like a good partner!
Free
Pass, we either have a balanced 15+ or an unbalanced hand which can be weaker. We don't need to tell partner again what we have...
