Pict
I take the plunge and bid 1D.
W Kovacs
Playing standard or 2/1 I'd bid 1D every time. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Playing with my normal partner, I bid 2D. Of course, his 1C (precision) means something completely different.
hanp
1D seems completely normal.

Those heart forces are going to make my diamonds useless in a 4-4 fit spade contract, especially if spades split 4-1 as could easily happen on this bidding sequence. JLOGIC
Are people considering this too good for 3D or is it the 4 spades or what? I would have thought 3D is fairly normal, but maybe I play it a little sounder than most, or maybe I devalue my stiff K more than most. For me KQ seventh is a very normal 3D bid vul, and the stiff K of clubs does not influence me too much, I don't think it helps our hand or our chances to make 3N all that much at all. It does give us some defense, but that's not such a horrible thing. On the other hand not only does it describe the general nature of our hand pretty well which should make getting to 3N or 5D or finding a good 5D save easier, it also might preempt them effectively. Bidding 1D will make it hard to show the nature of our hand later, and we might have to guess what to do in a lot of auctions, and it also makes the auction MUCH easier for them. I prefer to get it off my chest right away.
hanp
I think the hand is too good, 4-7 shape and the stiff king in partner's suit is not necessarily wasted. Maybe it is a matter of style.
Hanoi5
I for one thought of 3♦ as my first option. The person who gave me the hand asked me 'what about the spades?', and it rocked me a little bit for I play Walsh and I felt as if I hadn't seen the spades. So, is it the double that drives us away from the spades? How likely are we to miss a 4-4 spade fit in this position?
hanp
Bidding 1S with this hand would be insane no matter what RHO does. This hand is first and foremost about diamonds.

This is especially true with a good 7 bagger, 4 small, and a takeout double (usually indicating some length in the suit) on our right. This hand is not really about spades, and will probably play very badly in them.

keylime
3♦. Looks like opps are major-centric.
