Individual Robson

Recommended Posts

Tonight, I accidentally registered for a tournament whose title was "Individual Robson". Does this title have some meaning?

It appeared to me that the director left immediately upon starting the game. There didn't seem to be a way to leave other than signing out of BBO. (The "Home" button was disabled and several people asked to be allowed to leave.) The game was posted as 6 boards in 36 minutes, but the game took 45. No matchpoint scores were displayed until the last table had finished the last board.

Can anyone start a tournament? Is there some way I should have known to avoid this one? What's the deal with the Hotel California treatment?

Not that I know of.

No and, almost yes. To be able to have the power to start a tournament, you have to request it from the BBO. People with good records of behavior are automatically given the power. Directors who do wildy arbitrary things, or who, like this one, runs tournaments and then are not around for them, can lose their power. For what it is worth, the director of this one has no history of abandoning a tourney. This will be the first known time. He could have a techinical problem and couldn;t get on line.

Only if there was clue from the title that I am not aware of. Daniel Defoe wrote a novel "Robinson Crusoe", in which the hero was stranded on an island by himself. There was also a german novel roughly translated as "The Swiss Family Robinson" (notice spelling) that disney made a movie out of. Mabye the title related to being stranded in a tourament with no director. But then you would think the title would spell Robinson with an "i".

If this had been a team match, you could click on teh "call director button" and choose the I withdraw (or whatever the language is) and you will be removed from teh team match. I don't think this works for tournaments because it is nto fair to the other players if people leave with out reason. In the future, ask a yellow online if they could help.

Is there a way for me to file an official complaint, so the director "has a record"?

I am not sure who was the director, but I do know who "started" the tournament. (The power to start the tournament is restricted to people who have been given the power. Who actually directs it after it is registered witht he decision is up to who the person who got it listed appoints PLUS himself). I have registered the person as a first time offender.

In the future you should either write to "abuse at bridgebase dot com" or send a private message to any yellow on line. Writing abuse is probably best as yellows might miss your message or might make a mental note to report it abuse, but then forget.

and an "n".

I think it's more likely that the title refers to Andrew Robson, a well known English bridge expert, than a misspelling of Robinson.
